House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., remains in critical condition, according to the hospital where he was taken after being shot Wednesday morning.
Scalise was one of five people injured when a gunman opened fire on congressional Republicans as they held early morning baseball practice in Alexandria, Va. The practice was held ahead of Thursday’s annual congressional baseball game.
“Rep. Scalise was critically injured and remains in critical condition. The other patient is in good condition,” the hospital tweeted.

Scalise sustained a gunshot wound to his hip. MedStar tweeted that the other patient is in good condition.
James T. Hodgkinson is believed to be the man who shot tens of rounds at Republican lawmakers who were practicing for Thursday’s baseball game at Simpson Park in Alexandria. Hodgkinson was killed by police during a shootout.
The shooter appeared to be a critic of President Trump and Republicans in general. Police have released no information about a possible motive for the attack.
At least four other people were injured during the shooting, including two Capitol police officers.
One of the injured, Matt Mika — a director of governmental relations at Tyson Foods — is also in critical condition, his family told Politico.
