Freedom itself is at stake, and politicians in Washington have forgotten its meaning, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint warned his CPAC audience Thursday morning.
Freedom in America is built on the Constitution and the rule of law, and it remains endangered as long as Washington ignores both.
“Government is out of control, and freedom is the only solution,” DeMint said. “In America, freedom is built on the principles and values derived from Judeo-Christian convictions.”
DeMint took a swipe at President Obama, saying that the president and the Democrats’ only solution is more government.
Freedom solutions help across the economy, but DeMint warned that government interference can never work.
“I agree with many of his (Obama’s) goals,” DeMint said. “We need to fix our financial system and our schools, and reform health care. We need to make America more energy independent. We need to cut wasteful programs and fix our infrastructure.
“But we can’t solve these problems with more government programs and spending.”
But DeMint sees a silver lining because Americans have increasingly started paying attention to the erosion of their freedoms and have been taking action to protect them.
