GOP accord endangers Dulles Metro plan

Plans to extend Metrorail to Dulles International Airport are threatened by a provision in the fine print of the 38-page bill implementing the transportation deal General Assembly Republicans announced last week, Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer told The Examiner.

The legislation includes language that forbids the Virginia Department of Transportation from finishing its agreements with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Under those agreements MWAA would assume responsibility for operating the Dulles Toll Road and use the toll revenue to fund construction of a Metrorail extension from the East Falls Church station to the airport.
