Ghostbusters star Rick Moranis sucker-punched in New York City attack

Rick Moranis, a Hollywood fixture in films from the 1980s and 1990s, was the victim of what appears to be a random attack outside his Manhattan apartment.

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that while Moranis was walking on Central Park West near West 70th Street at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, a man randomly approached the actor and punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground and causing injuries.

The assault was captured on video and showed Moranis passing a man wearing a black “I love New York” hoodie before the man in the hoodie winds up and slugs the actor in the face, causing him to stumble to the ground. The assailant is then seen calmly walking away as though nothing happened.

Moranis, who appeared in Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids, was reportedly taken to the hospital, where he was examined for pain in his head, back, and right hip. The attack was also reported to the police, who are investigating.

The suspect has not been located as of Friday afternoon.
