The White House has joined in on the April Fool’s Day festivities, releasing an official YouTube video featuring Kid President – instead of President Obama – peeking up behind the press room podium.
“You look like you were expecting somebody else,” Kid President Robby Novak said. “But April Fools on all of y’all. I’m a cute president, and I hope everybody has an awesome day.”
The video, featured on WhiteHouse.gov as a “special message from the president,” stars nine-year-old “Kid President” Robby Novak, a Tennessee resident and dance party enthusiast, who is a viral internet sensation thanks to his charming personality.
“It’s everybody’s duty to give the world a reason to dance,” he said in the White House video. “I made it to the White House. I’m here. Peace,” he concluded, holding up two hands in peace signs, imitating former President Richard M. Nixon.
Kid President steps off the podium exiting stage right, making flatulence noises while he walks. But when the camera pans to him, he’s wedged between the sliding door and the wall.
“I think I’m stuck,” he said.
The video appears to be finished after that, leaving the audience with a cliffhanger, wondering if Kid President will ever escape from the door, but the outtakes show he is back at the podium discussing an iPad beckoning him to click it.
Novak attended the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll Monday dressed in his finest suit where he participated in the opening ceremony.
Reaction was mixed on whether or not the prank was funny – some found the cute kid refreshing in his non-partisan humor while others thought the April Fool’s Day humor fell completely flat.
Perhaps the White House should leave future funny routines to the President.
