Skeletal remains found in Woodbridge last summer belong to a woman who was reported missing more than six years ago.
Prince William County police said 58-year-old Linda Mae Archer was last seen in October 2004 and reported missing in January 2005. Her remains were found in June near Minnieville Road and Prince William Parkway, sent to a forensics lab and compared with DNA from her relatives. A match was confirmed this month.
Police said there is no evidence of foul play. Authorities are still investigating how she died.
The Virginia Department of Forensic Science gets about 10 to 15 cases of unidentified remains a year, director Pete Marone said. A DNA match is made once or twice a year, he said.
