» The Giants converted four third downs on their opening series and took advantage of the Redskins trying to pressure Eli Manning with some well-timed screens.
»That was a nice show of offensive balance by the Giants. They had the Redskins guessing much of the series. New York also did a good job controlling the line of scrimmage the entire drive.
» Linebacker Rocky McIntosh did a nice job on the second-and-goal run from the 2-yard line. He stuffed the lead blocker a couple yards deep in the backfield, allowing London Fletcher a better chance to stick Brandon Jacobs for a one-yard loss.
» But on the next play McIntosh got stood up by tight end Kevin Boss.
» Not sure what the longest drive was against the Redskins this year, in terms of clock consumption, but this one has to be one of the top two. Likely the longest.
» For what it’s worth, there are a lot of empties still in the upper deck. And we’re not talking beer cans. Considering the weather and the record, guess I can’t blame people for staying home.
» Guard Rich Seubert has a knee injury and his return is questionable. He did not come out for the Giants’ second series.
» Mike Williams was beaten badly on the stunt. Too often his head is down as he’s blocking and it’ll always land him in trouble. The biggest worry when Randy Thomas went down this season was how the line would handle stunts on that side. Stephon Heyer does not get a good enough punch on his men to slow stunts and we saw that on this play.
» The first two plays that DeAngelo Hall was in the game, Eli Manning tested him. Hall passed. First he stayed in stride with Steve Smith down the right side. Then on a slant, he was in perfect position, breaking on the inside hip of receiver Hakeem Nicks to break it up.
» The Redskins have twice rushed with three down linemen. The second time, on a third-and-10, Phillip Daniels dropped into coverage. But Manning had too much time.
» The Redskins are putting no pressure on Manning. Can’t win that way. The Redskins’ line is not getting much penetration vs. the run or pass. End Phillip Daniels was driven out on Ahmad Bradshaw’s five-yard run to end the quarter.
