Amazon has recently been criticized by President Trump for taking advantage of the U.S. Postal Service, and he has called for more taxes on the tech giant, but one of Amazon’s biggest deals is with the U.S. government.
Amazon has a deal with the government to provide cloud services to the CIA and other intelligence agencies through its Amazon Web Services cloud computing division, CNN reported.
The deal, which Amazon said they beat IBM for, was first awarded in 2013, is for 10 years, and is worth $600 million.
Although the deal was made during the Obama administration, there have been upgrades to the deal since Trump’s election.
Just last month, Amazon announced an expansion of the deal.
According to Amazon, they save the government a lot of money in comparison to what it would be paying if it used a different cloud vendor.
If Trump were to punish Amazon by canceling existing deals with the Department of Defense, CIA, and other intelligence agencies, he would potentially be costing the government a lot of money, according to the report.
