What the secretary meant to say……. (reuters photo)
President Obama this afternoon will deliver a report on what array of government and security lapses allowed the so-called panty bomber to nearly bring down an airliner on Christmas Day. Every day at the White House, the press is asking who is going to get fired.
All kinds of people have been calling for Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s head, following her claim after the incident that “the system worked.” She later clarified that remark, saying she meant the system worked after the thwarted attack — whatever, it was too late, for pundits and the blogosphere.
Napolitano looks safe for now, though. After Obama delivers his report at 3 p.m., Napolitano is scheduled to join Robert Gibbs at the podium in the press room to brief reporters — as sure a sign of faith as one can get at the White House.
