Virginia first lady skydives for the troops

First Lady of Virginia Maureen McDonnell jumped out of an airplane Friday — for the troops, of course.

McDonnell and her daughter, Caitlin, joined the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team as part of her ongoing work to raise awareness of the need to support Virginia’s military families.

It was the first jump for McDonnell — also a former Redskins cheerleader.

“I want to go back up,” McDonnell said after skydiving at Dinwiddie Airport. “I knew my biggest challenge was going to be going out the door. That’s why they sent my daughter down first.”

The Golden Knights are in town for Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race at Richmond International Raceway.
