Nicholas Soames, a British Conservative member of Parliament, replied to Trump’s tweet, which ended with, “we must keep America safe!”
Soames replied, “#Thenfixguncontrolyoudafttwerp.”
The U.K. Office for National Statistics reported a 13-percent increase in all police-recorded offenses in its quarterly update. Many prominent British politicians criticized Trump for his tweet, including Jo Swinson, a Liberal Democrat member of Parliament, who accused Trump of “misleading and spreading fear.”
