SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — An Illinois legislator is pushing a resolution that would name a highway in Springfield after a former state senator.
The resolution honoring former state senator John “Doc” Davidson is sponsored by Republican Sen. Sam McCann of Carlinville.
Davidson represented the 50th District from 1973 to 1993. One of his most notable accomplishments is working to make sure Southern Illinois University’s School of Medicine would be located in Springfield.
Davidson was born in Mississippi and served in the Navy during World War II. A chiropractor by trade, Davidson was also a member and past president of the Springfield Jaycees.
McCann says Davidson’s impact “will be felt throughout central Illinois for generations to come.”
