Hillary Clinton reveals how she coped with losing to Trump: ‘Chardonnay helped a little’

Hillary Clinton joked on Friday that drinking a little wine was one activity that helped her get over her surprise election loss to Donald Trump last year.

“I won’t lie, chardonnay helped a little too,” Clinton said to applause during her Friday commencement address at her alma mater, Wellesley College.

“Here’s what helped most of all: remembering who I am, where I come from, and what I believe,” she said. “And that is what Wellesley means to me.”

Clinton has often joked about how she had to handle her loss, which shocked millions of people in the U.S. and around the world. But she said meeting with students has also helped.

“One of the things that gave me the most hope and joy after the election, when I really needed it, was meeting so many young people who told me that my defeat had not defeated them,” Clinton said.

Clinton’s address marks the second time she has delivered a commencement speech at Wellesley; she spoke there in 1992, just months before Bill Clinton was first elected president. She also spoke at her graduation in 1969.
