White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday he expects President Trump to make an announcement this week about whether audio recordings exist of his talks with fired former FBI Director James Comey.
“The president has said that he will make an announcement on this,” Spicer said during Tuesday’s press briefing. “I expect this week. When he is ready, we will let you know.”
Last month, after firing Comey, Trump tweeted: “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”
Since then, Trump wouldn’t say whether such recordings exist.
The House Intelligence Committee has asked the White House to turn over any tapes the president may have to the committee by Friday.
