Hundreds flocked to Dupont Circle for snowball fight

Hundreds flocked to Dupont Circle Saturday afternoon for a snowball fight that featured cross country skiers, police cars being pelted, and even a snowboarder getting towed by an SUV on nearby New Hampshire Avenue.

In classic D.C. fashion, the fight was organized with the help of Facebook. The group “The Official Dupont Circle Snowball Fight” boasting over 6,000 members.

“I think it’s very cool that everyone’s outside,” said D.C. resident Liz Anthony, pausing for a second while cross-country skiing around the circle.

Cars and trucks that dared pass by the fray were greeted with a barrage of snowballs from all sides.

Some of the hordes in attendance were clearly prepared for a fight, and brought makeshift cardboard shields. Others rode sleds pulled by friends. Still others were actually experiencing their first snow.

Francisco Ramon, visiting from Brazil, remarked that this was his first experience with the fluffy stuff — in between lobbing snowballs at the crowd, of course.

“It’s funny,” he said of the fight. “I’m enjoying it.”
