Police have arrested two men on charges that they killed a popular District middle school principal.
The names of the two men were not immediately released Monday. Authorities said they’re in their late teens or early 20s.
One of the men is the son of Artura Otey Williams, the 46-year-old woman who was arrested Monday morning on charges that she used a credit card stolen from slain principal Brian Betts, police said.
The 42-year-old Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson principal was found shot to death in his Silver Spring home on April 15.
Police said the case broke when they spotted Williams on surveillance footage using Betts’ credit card at a Giant food store in Silver Spring.
Authorities say she charged about $100 on April 16.
Williams was arrested during a search of her residence at 5315 Fifth Street, NW, Monday morning. A second search warrant was served on the 4300 block of Third Street, SE, just blocks from where Betts’ sport utility vehicle was discovered on April 17.
Two men were spotted abandoning the SUV during the afternoon of April 16.
Police said they do not believe Betts and Williams knew each other prior to the slaying. Authorities have said they believe the suspects in Betts’ murder targeted the popular principal.
Betts was found dead after colleagues went to his home because he had not shown up for work.
