Dennis Rodman doesn’t get his first pick for pope, but rides on “Popemobile” through Vatican City

Good thing NBA star Dennis Rodman has plans to vacation with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, because his attempt to visit Italy has been a failure so far.

The former Chicago Bulls player took a break from promoting his “friend” Jong-un to travel to Vatican City and support Cardinal Peter Turkson as the best choice for pope.

“He’s an understanding and peaceful individual,” Rodman told the Associated Press on Wednesday, although he still wasn’t quite sure where the Cardinal was from.

“From Africa, right?” Rodman asked during the interview.

Had he been selected as the new pontiff, Turkson, who is from Ghana, would have been the first black pope.

While Rodman said he was certain the new pope would be black, his hopes were dashed on Wednesday, when Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was announced as the new head of the Catholic Church.

But Rodman might not be too disappointed after his joy ride through Vatican City in his own version of the  “Popemobile,” a modified Mercedes-Benz SUV that looks like this. The ex-basketball player’s ride was originally in jeopardy because of all of the snow in northern Italy.

Oh, and Rodman donned sparkly, colorful nails for the celebration.

So, maybe his trip wasn’t a total failure…
