Last Week Tonight host John Oliver said Joe Biden’s accuser Tara Reade “deserves to be heard.”
Oliver is the first late-night television host to speak out in support of Reade.
“Now, he’s denied that claim, but there are clearly big questions still to be answered here, and Tara Reade obviously deserves to be heard the way that anyone does when they make the difficult choice to come forward with allegations of this kind — allegations which should, of course, be fully investigated. And I am sure that we will talk more about this as the story unfolds,” he said Sunday on his HBO show.
Reade, 56, says that she was sexually harassed and assaulted by Biden when she worked as a staff assistant in his Senate office in 1993. Biden, who is the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has vehemently denied the allegation.
Oliver’s HBO colleague Bill Maher was not as supportive during his show Friday. Maher called Reade’s claim “ridiculous,” betting that “no one would pay attention to it.”
