The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, frustrated with the slanted coverage of his panel’s probe into the 2016 election, said that truthful media “no longer exists” and that 90 percent takes a left wing angle because that’s what their liberal owners demand.
In an extensive interview on conservative media mogul Mark Levin’s popular new Fox News Channel Sunday show Life, Liberty & Levin, Rep. Devin Nunes called the media “a pile of something,” and added that it is “part of the Democratic Party’s network.”
Levin prompted Nunes' criticism of the media when he referenced a series of headlines hitting Nunes who recently pushed for the release of a GOP-written memo that dismissed claims of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign in the 2016 election in which Trump won despite Hillary Rodham Clinton getting more popular votes.
Other headlines played up a memo from Democrats on his panel that said the GOP memo was wrong.
Levin, who has long dismissed the mainstream media as biased and overly protective of Democrats, found an ally in Nunes.
“The media in this country is dead. It no longer exists and the American people need to understand this,” said the California lawmaker.
“I don’t know where it’s going to all end – if it’s dead forever – but 90 percent of the media is far left wing, and they are totally reliant on getting clicks and playing to their base and to their owners to support what their owners want,” he added.
Nunes said that most of the media doesn’t give conservatives a fair shake, though they pretend to.
“They masquerade, they use the storied names of these great institutions or these great companies like the Washington Post. I mean it’s been around forever, did a lot of historic work for decades, but it no longer does that,” he said.
Levin, who has built his own media empire with his nightly talk radio show, Levin TV on CRTV, his work with Conservative Review, and now Fox, said that the mainstream is protecting the former Obama administration and its efforts to help Clinton during the election.
“We have what I call a Praetorian Guard media – they’re going to protect the Obama administration no matter what that administration did or does. If the shoe were on the other foot – if this were a Republican administration that did this to a Democratic candidate – it would be the greatest scandal in American history,” said Levin.
Nunes agreed. “Oh my god, can you imagine if it was George W. Bush and Karl Rove doing this to the incoming Obama administration?”
