The world's oldest person, born in 1899, has died.

Emma Morano died in her Italian home at the age of 117, according to multiple reports. She was the last known survivor of the 19th century.

Her 117th birthday — which was in November 2016 — took place with much fanfare in Pallanza, northern Italy.

According a story written about her when she was 115, Morano believed her secret to longevity was eating three raw eggs a day and remaining single.
