Sam Brown looks to secure GOP Senate nomination in Nevada days after Trump’s endorsement

U.S. Army veteran Sam Brown is looking to secure the GOP nomination for Nevada’s Senate seat during the state’s primary election tonight just days after winning the coveted endorsement of former President Donald Trump over the weekend.
Brown faces a crowded field of candidates vying for the Republican nomination to face incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) in one of the most competitive races of the 2024 cycle. Trump’s endorsement gives Brown a massive advantage over his challengers, prompting backlash from some of his opponents.
Jeff Gunter, who is also running for the Republican nomination, claimed that Trump had received a “big check” delivered from “the swamp” that influenced him to back Brown in the race. Gunter did not provide any evidence of such claims but suggested the money could have come from a group aligned with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Trump endorsed Brown in a post on Truth Social late Sunday night, hours after the former president appeared at a campaign rally earlier that day in Las Vegas.
The Nevada Senate race is one of three seats considered tossups in the 2024 election and is likely to determine which party wins control of the upper chamber next year.

Strength of Trump endorsement survives test in slew of GOP primary races

Former President Donald Trump had a successful night in several primaries on Tuesday, as many of his endorsed candidates advanced to the general election in November.
Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, granted his favor in a number of races during the June 11 primary elections, including Senate, House, and gubernatorial primaries in South Carolina, Nevada, Maine, and North Dakota.
Almost all of his picks saw outright success, with a notable exception of Pastor Mark Burns in South Carolina’s 3rd district GOP primary, who is heading for a runoff against nurse Sheri Biggs after failing to reach a majority of the vote. On a night where Trump’s picks saw favorable outcomes, the runoff stands as a notable mark on his almost perfect record.

GOP race to take on Democratic Rep. Susie Lee in Nevada still too close to call

The Republican primary for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District to take on Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) remains undecided as vote tallies trickle in.
With roughly 74% of the ballots counted, tax analyst Drew Johnson leads with 31.1% of the vote compared to former state Treasurer Dan Schwartz at 24.3% and video game music composer Marty O’Donnell at about 21.4%.
Lee easily won her nomination Tuesday night and will face the winner of the Republican primary this November. The swing district race will be closely watched and play a pivotal role in the battle for House control.

Democratic incumbent Susie Lee wins primary in key House race

Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) cruised to victory in her primary Tuesday night and will face the winner of the Republican primary in what is a swing district in the battle for House control.
Lee won her race handedly against RockAthena Brittain, the first transgender woman to run for Congress in the state’s third Congressional District. With 62% of the ballots counted, Lee led with nearly 93% of the vote.

U.S. Army veteran Sam Brown on Tuesday clinched the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Nevada, beating a crowded field of 12 opponents just days after securing the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press called the race for Brown at 8:11 p.m. Eastern, a little more than an hour after the polls closed. With 58% of the ballots counted, Brown led with nearly 57% of the vote.
He will go on to face Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) in the general election in what is one of three toss-up Senate races that could determine party control of the chamber.

Polls closed in Nevada at 10 p.m. Pacific time, with all eyes on U.S. Army veteran Sam Brown‘s bid to clinch the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
His expected victory would be just days after securing the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. The primary winner will face Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) in the general election in what will be one of the most pivotal Senate races in the country.
Nevada is one of three toss-up Senate battles that could determine party control of the chamber.

North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak won the GOP primary to succeed Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND).
The Associated Press called the race more than two hours after polls closed, with Fedorchak winning 46% of the vote with 72% votes counted.
Fedorchak defeated four other Republican candidates, including former foreign service officer Alexander Balazs, former state Rep. Rick Becker, Sharlet Mohr, and former Miss America Cara Mund.
Democrat Trygve Hammer will now face Fedorchak in the general election battle that the Cook Political Report rated as solidly Republican.
Armstrong, meanwhile, is almost certainly guaranteed to become the state’s next governor after winning the GOP primary to succeed Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND).

Trygve Hammer defeated Roland Riemers in the Democratic primary for North Dakota’s 1st Congressional District, represented by Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND).
The Associated Press called the race for Hammer at 9:47 p.m. Eastern, nearly two hours after polls closed.
Hammer won nearly 76% of the vote while Riemers won 24.1% of the vote with 29% of votes counted. The seat, however, is likely to go toward the Republicans in red-leaning North Dakota.
The GOP primary has not yet been called. Armstrong won the GOP primary to replace Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), who is not seeking reelection.

GOP primary to replace South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan heads to runoff

The race to replace Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) as the Republican nominee in South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District will head to a runoff after none of the seven GOP candidates won a majority of the vote in Tuesday’s election.
The Associated Press said at 9:16 p.m. after polls closed at 7 p.m. that Trump-endorsed pastor Mark Burns and nurse Sheri Biggs advanced to a June 25 runoff.
With 76% of the ballots counted, Burns led with 31.5% of the vote, followed by Biggs at 29.5% and state Rep. Stewart Jones at 19.5%.
The candidates are seeking to replace Duncan, who announced earlier this year he was retiring from Congress and would not seek an eighth term. His exit means the reliably red district that borders northeast Georgia is up for grabs for the first time in more than a decade and whoever can clinch the Republican nomination will likely cruise to victory in the November general election.

Mace to face Democrat Michael Moore in November

Mace will face Democrat Michael Moore in the general election after Moore defeated Mac Deford in Tuesday’s Democratic primary with 54.8% of the vote as of 9:19 p.m. Eastern time.
Deford received 45.3% of the vote with 81% of the votes counted.
“I’m sincerely grateful to every single Lowcountry voter who showed up at the polls to support our hopeful vision for the future of South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District,” Moore said in a statement celebrating his win.
“Over the coming months, our team is going to take the fight to Nancy Mace and work hard to flip this Lowcountry congressional seat,” Moore continued. “With your help, I’m confident we can restore honest leadership, commonsense solutions, and Lowcountry values to the U.S. House of Representatives.”
Mace defeated her challengers, Catherine Templeton and Bill Young, by significant margins with 57.7% of the vote with 35% of votes counted as of 9:18 p.m. Her win comes after Kevin McCarthy and his allies funneled millions into Templeton’s campaign and other avenues to beat Mace over her vote to oust him as speaker.
The race for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District is rated as “solid Republican” by the Cook Political Report, with a partisan voting index of Republican +7 thanks to redistricting.

Kelly Armstrong wins GOP primary in battle to replace Burgum as governor

Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) won the Republican primary to replace Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), who is a top vice presidential candidate for former president Donald Trump‘s reelection campaign.
Armstrong defeated Lt. Gov. Tammy Miller (R-ND) in the GOP primary while Democrat Merrill Piepkorn ran uncontested in the primary.
The Associated Press called the race for Armstrong at 9:21 p.m. Eastern time at 67.5%, with 17% of the votes counted.

Republican Michael Rulli narrowly wins Ohio special election

Republican Michael Rulli narrowly won a special election in Ohio on Tuesday to finish out former Rep. Bill Johnson’s term.
Rulli won with 52.2% of the vote with 65% of votes counted as of 9:12 p.m. He defeated Democrat Michael Kripchak, who had been leading for most of the night before the race tilted in Rulli’s favor. Kripchak ended with 47.8% of the vote as of 9:12 p.m.
Rulli will finish out Johnson’s term, after the former congressman retired early to become the next president of Youngstown State University.
Both Rulli and Kripchak are also on the ballot for the November general election for a full term.

Austin Theriault won the Republican primary on Tuesday and will go on to face Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) in a competitive general election in November.
The Associated Press called the race for Theriault at 8:52 p.m., almost an hour after the polls closed. Theriault won with 69.1% of the vote at the time the race was called.
Theriault defeated Michael Soboleski, who received 30.8% of the vote as of 8:55 p.m. with 13% of the votes counted.

Nancy Mace wins GOP primary in South Carolina

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) won the Republican primary in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday, besting two challengers against all odds after millions were spent against her for her vote to oust former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Mace won the race with 57.5% of the vote after the Associated Press called the race at 8:40 p.m. Her opponents, Catherine Templeton and Bill Young, received 28.9% and 13.5% of the vote at the time the race was called.
The Democratic primary between Michael Moore and Mac Deford is still ongoing.
