Michelle O pitches her book as Mother's Day present

First lady Michelle Obama's book about her veggie garden, "American Grown," has been out for nearly a year but is only now that the mom of two who lives with her mom in the White House is getting to pitch it as the world's best Mother's Day gift.

The reason: It debuted two weeks after Mother's Day 2012. Sunday is Mother's Day.

Appearing Tuesday at Washington's favorite bookstore, Politics and Prose, she said, "Buy away. It's Mother's Day. It's coming up. I would say that I was going to give this as a gift to my mother, but she already has, like, 10 copies. But I might buy her another one just for the heck of it. But it's a great gift, and hopefully you share it with your family and friends."

Proceeds of "American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America" go to the National Park Foundation.
