Former congressman Joe Sestak ends his presidential campaign

Former Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak announced the end of his 2020 bid for the presidency on Sunday.

After entering a crowded field of Democratic candidates in June, Sestak failed to gain the momentum necessary to make him a serious candidate. A highly decorated Navy admiral, Sestak, 67, launched his campaign with the slogan, “Admiral Joe: Accountability to America.”

Sestak cited a lack of national press as being the primary reason for his campaign’s demise.

“I want to thank you for the honor of running for President of the United States of America. It has been an endeavor filled with immeasurable wisdom, passions, humor and insights to, and from, the people of America,” he wrote in a verbose statement. “Thank you for this priceless opportunity as I end our campaign together. Without the privilege of national press, it is unfair to ask others to husband their resolve and to sacrifice resources any longer.”
