Kelly Ayotte says she will no longer vote for Trump

Republican New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte said she will no longer be voting for her party’s presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

In a statement on Saturday, Ayotte addressed a resurfaced video from 2005 that showed Trump making vulgar comments about women.

“I wanted to be able to support my party’s nominee, chosen by the people because I feel strongly that we need a change in direction for our country,” Ayotte said in a statement she posted on Twitter. “However, I’m a mom and an American first, and I cannot and will not support a candidate for president who brags about degrading and assaulting women. I will not be voting for Donald Trump or [Democrat] Hillary Clinton and instead will be writing in [GOP vice presidential nominee] Governor Mike Pence for president on Election Day.”

Ayotte had said in May that she would be voting for Trump but that she would not explicitly endorse him. She is locked in a tight race for her Senate seat re-election.
