Bernie Nipping at Hillary’s Heels in New Hampshire

A second poll of New Hampshire Democratic primary voters shows Vermont senator Bernie Sanders closing the gap with former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. According to a new Suffolk University poll, 41 percent of likely primary voters in the Granite State support Clinton, while 31 percent support Sanders. The next closest Democrat, Vice President Joe Biden (who isn’t currently running), comes in at eight percent.

That 10-point gap between Clinton and Sanders mirrors another recent poll from the Morning Consult that found Sanders 12 points behind Clinton in New Hampshire. Both polls have Clinton under 50 percent.

Sanders, an independent socialist who caucuses with the Democrats, is running a populist progressive campaign but has been considered a long-shot for the Democratic nomination against Clinton. Clinton maintains big leads in national polls and in other early primary states like Iowa and South Carolina.
