NEW YORK (AP) — Attorneys representing a New York City hotel housekeeper suing former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn in civil court are asking a judge to issue subpoenas to prosecutors and police.
Attorneys for Nafissatou Diallo (na-fee-SAH’-too dee-AH’-loh) say in court papers filed Monday the subpoenas have to come from the judge because the Manhattan district attorney’s office and the New York Police Department are public entities.
The lawyers are looking for documents and records compiled by the prosecutors and police during their investigation into allegations Strauss-Kahn sexually assaulted Diallo in a hotel room last year.
Strauss-Kahn denied the allegations. Prosecutors dropped criminal charges against the one-time French presidential contender, saying they had developed concerns about Diallo’s credibility.
Prosecutors and police have objected to the subpoena motion. Diallo’s attorneys have opposed those objections.
