Highest-paid Iowa workers are football coaches

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Salaries for state employees vary widely in Iowa with college football coaches and medical school professors earning the most.

The Des Moines Register recently analyzed state employee salaries (http://dmreg.co/SGd6PB ) and found that Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz earns the most with his $3.7 million salary.

Ninety-nine clinical professors at the University of Iowa’s medical school earn an average of $214,271 a year and are among the top earners.

Most state workers earn considerably less. For instance, 162 entry-level food workers were paid an average of $17,062.
