Fairfax County police officers shot and killed an alleged bank robber Wednesday morning, according to the police department.
Police said the man allegedly held up a Wachovia Bank on Richmond Highway, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police attempted to stop him on Richmond Highway, but the man fled into an apartment building at 7417 Fordson Road. He was hiding in a crawl space.
“He refused commands from officers, made several furtive gestures and was subsequently shot by one officer,” according to a department press release.
Neither the suspect’s nor the officer’s name were released on Wednesday. The officer involved is a 27-year veteran of the police department and has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
