Vice President Mike Pence swore in members of President Trump’s senior staff Sunday during a ceremony in the White House’s East Room, where Trump delivered a brief speech thanking his team for their hard work.
White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway and National Policy Director Stephen Miller were among the senior staffers who took the oath of office Sunday.
“It’s a great team. It’s a team that gets along,” Trump said of his incoming staff.
“We’re not here to help ourselves, we’re here to devote ourselves to the national good,” Trump added. “Public service is a high and great calling.
At the outset of the ceremony, Trump presented an envelope containing a letter from his predecessor.
“We will cherish that and we will keep that and we won’t even tell the press what’s in that letter,” Trump said of the letter former President Obama had left for him in the Oval Office, in keeping with tradition.
