Trump plans Wisconsin visit on first day of Democratic virtual Milwaukee convention

President Trump is planning a live, in-person campaign event in Wisconsin on Monday, the first day of the Democrat’s scaled-back, largely online Milwaukee convention.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, are planning to deliver their remarks virtually.

Wisconsin is a key battleground state that Trump won in 2016 by a slim margin — less than 1 percentage point.

Democrats had planned to nominate Biden formally during this year’s Democratic National Convention but scaled back operations as coronavirus cases began to rise. State delegates were asked last month to vote for their candidate virtually.

Details for an event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, have not been finalized, and it could still be called off, two Republican officials told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

News of the president’s potential visit follows Trump’s new television advertising campaign targeting former Vice President Biden on taxes and immigration. The “high seven figures” ad buy targets five early-voting states, including Wisconsin, where the ad is airing statewide.

Biden holds a lead of 5.5 percentage points over Trump in Wisconsin, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
