McDaniel College will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?s life and accomplishments in a service involving musical presentations, a candle lighting ceremony, award presentations and dramatic recitations of King?s speeches by performance artist Jim Lucas.
“The civil rights movement had an indelible effect on the whole country,” said Ira Zepp, professor emeritus of Religious Studies at McDaniel College, who marched with King across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., in 1965. “As a result of the movement, we at McDaniel, along with other institutions, began a journey of inclusion, not only embracing more students of all minorities, but also starting more classes on Martin Luther King Jr., and civil rights and the political impact of social movements.”
