State Department: Iran complied with nuclear deal in Trump’s first 90 days

The White House contacted Congress to confirm that Iran is adhering with the 2015 nuclear deal created by former President Barack Obama, according to a State Department statement issued late Tuesday.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told House Speaker Paul Ryan in a letter that the Trump administration is conducting a full review of the agreement to determine if the sanctions relief should continue. The certification of compliance is completed every 90 days and the first issued by Trump’s team.

Tillerson warned that Iran’s role as a state sponsor of terrorism remains a concern to the administration.

“Iran remains a leading state sponsor of terror, through many platforms and methods. President Donald J. Trump has directed a National Security Council-led interagency review of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that will evaluate whether suspension of sanctions related to Iran pursuant to the JCPOA is vital to the national security interests of the United States,” Tillerson wrote.

The National Security Council-led intelligence review will handle the review of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
