White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Friday that the only evidence of collusion with Russia during the 2016 election relates to the Democrats, not to President Trump.
“We are seeing now that if there was any collusion with Russia, it was between the [Democratic National Committee] and the Clintons,” Sanders told reporters at the White House on Friday.
Trump and his supporters have seized on reports this week that Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the DNC shared the cost of producing a dossier of Russia-related allegations against the president and his associates. The dossier, produced by a former British spy, attributed some of its claims to unnamed Russian officials.
Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly examining the dossier in the course of his overarching investigation of whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russians to sway public opinion during the presidential race.
“The president wants to see this completed,” Sanders said of the Russia investigation. “We think we continue to see, day in and day out, as this investigation moves to completion…there’s still no evidence of collusion between the president and anyone.”
