A liberal group is tying Republican Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake to Donald Trump in a new ad set to run in their state.
The ad from the People for the American Way will run for a week on Spanish radio stations in Arizona beginning Thursday, according to the New York Times. It ties McCain and Flake to Trump by criticizing their opposition to confirming Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland.
“We know the Supreme Court makes some of the most important decisions like immigration, voting rights, and health care. And these decisions affect our friends, families, and community,” the ad begins.
The ad asks why McCain and Flake are “refusing to do their job — and blocking President Obama’s nominee? Is it because they want to see Donald Trump — the man who called Mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers — get to name our next Supreme Court Justice?”
“McCain and Flake need to confirm President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee — and stop doing Donald Trump’s bidding,” the ad concludes.
Flake is not up for re-election this year, but McCain is. He is likely to face Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat, in his quest to secure a sixth term.
McCain was caught on tape earlier this month saying Trump as the GFOP nominee would upset Latino voters in his state and make his re-election campaign “the race of my life.”
The group also put out the ad in Spanish:
