Watch David French say he’d vote for Donald Trump

A January video resurfaced Wednesday of David French, the latest name floated for a third-party presidential run by #NeverTrump diehards, admitting he would vote for Donald Trump in the general election.

In the video, a Huffington Post reporter asked the National Review columnist and constitutional lawyer if he would support the New York businessman if he won the nomination.

“What do I do? I vote for Donald Trump,” French responded. “I’m not one of these Republicans or conservatives who said ‘well, I’m just gonna take my ball and go home.'”

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol recommended French running as a third-party candidate earlier in the week. The call prompted a review of French’s background and previous statements about the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

Part of that record includes French rescinding his support for Trump two months later.

“Let me begin by saying that I was wrong. Weeks ago I said on a number of radio interviews that while I opposed Trump in the primary, I’d back him if he won the GOP nomination. I hadn’t yet seen — or had been unwilling to believe — the full extent of his contempt for the truth, his fondness for far-left conspiracy theories, and his sheer malice,” Trump wrote in a National Review column.

The video showcases French’s reversal of positions, a practice many #NeverTrumpers have criticized the billionaire for repeatedly doing.
