Two theater groups and a media company are putting on a reading in New York of all 448 pages of the Mueller report from Saturday night to Sunday.
The groups are hosting the 24-hour event to spread awareness of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report to Congress over Russian interference in the 2016 election. The event, “Filibustered and Unfiltered: America Reads the Mueller Report,” will take place at the Arc in Long Island City, according to the New York Times.
The theater companies New Neighborhood and Slightly Altered States and the arts and media company DMNDR have been planning the production for more than a month. The reading comes after with a press conference given by Mueller earlier in the week that thrust his report back into the spotlight and kicked off renewed calls for the impeachment of President Trump.
“It’s not meant to be a performance,” said Jackson Gay, who is directing the reading. “It’s meant to be a bunch of people coming together and finding their voice. We shouldn’t just sit back on our couches and let other people tell us what to think.”
“It’s really just about our responsibility as American citizens to read this thing that we paid for,” she said.
About 120 people have volunteered to participate in the event, according to Business Insider. The volunteers will take turns reading through the Mueller report, letting dramatic music play during the redacted portions. Audience members may enter and leave at any time during the reading.
The hosts of the event are not sure what kind of overall turnout to expect, but sales for the $10-ticket show have been “super encouraging,” New Neighborhood’s Steven Padla said.
