Triple amputee veteran raising money for border wall: ‘Democrats want this’

The triple amputee war veteran who raised more than $11.5 million for construction of a border wall said he is surprised to see the degree of Democrat support for President Trump’s border security priority.

Brian Kolfage, who set up a GoFundMe page over the weekend urging people to donate to help get the funds needed to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, said he received several messages from Democrats who did not vote for Trump who say they support the project. The border wall is currently caught in a legislative standoff between Congress and the White House which, if not resolved by the end of Friday, could result in a partial government shutdown.

“We’re not getting just people who voted for Trump now,” Kolfage told Fox Business on Friday morning. “I’m getting messages from many Democrats who say they support this wall … It’s showing the support of all Americans who are coming together on this.”

Kolfage said that he was “shocked” by the amount of Democrat support because of reports on media outlets like CNN that he says portray that the majority of Americans as opposing the wall.

“The amount of support behind this wall is a lot more than the liberal media, CNN and all of them, want you to believe,” Kolfage said. “That’s why I was shocked when I got tons of emails from Democrats. It blew my mind because you don’t hear anything about that, you don’t think Democrats want this wall, but clearly they do want this wall.”

Kolfage said that the average donation at this point is about $60 per contributor, and he previously said that if all the people who voted for Trump donated $80, the wall would be funded.

The Senate is likely to vote on a House-passed spending bill that includes the funding for the border wall. If that proposal is enacted, Kolfage says he would either refund people the money they donated, or put it to a vote and see what people want the money to be used for.
