Tim Kaine rubs elbows with Katy Perry, Lena Dunham in LA

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine delivered the keynote address at Saturday evening’s Human Rights Campaign in Los Angeles, but not before he took some time to talk and take photos with celebrities who supported his and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign to take the White House.

Photos and video posted to Twitter show the former vice presidential candidate and his wife Anne interacting with singer Katy Perry and actress Lena Dunham among others. Both Perry and Dunham hit the campaign trail for Clinton.

At the dinner event afterwards, Kaine delivered a speech in which he took aim at President Trump.

“We are living in a stress test of our constitutional democracy,” he said. We have taken this thing in for the 230-year check up, to see whether the institutions that were put in place in 1787 still exist.”

If Congress, the courts, the press and citizens are successful acting as checks to the president’s power, Kaine said “this chapter will have an end, and the end of the chapter will be that our system was vindicated over any temporary occupant of any of the positions of this system.”

General admission at the glitzy affair went for $295. VIP tickets cost $450 and there were a number of 5- and 6-digit sponsorship donation options.
