Harley Rouda, the Democrat challenging Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., declared victory on Saturday morning after taking a 7,328-vote lead.
“After careful consideration of the data provided by the fantastic team at the Orange County Registrar, my staff and I are now confident that we have won the Congressional race in California’s 48th district,” Rouda tweeted on Saturday.
Rohrabacher has not yet conceded the race, nor has any major news outlet called the race for Rouda.
As of this morning, my campaign is ahead by 7,328 votes. After careful consideration of the data provided by the fantastic team at the Orange County Registrar, my staff and I are now confident that we have won the Congressional race in California’s 48th district.

If Rouda’s lead holds, he would unseat a major booster of Trump in Rohrabacher, who has served in Congress for more than 30 years. Rohrabacher has also been known for his pro-Russia views, prompting some critics calling him Russian President Vladimir Putin’s favorite congressman.
Rohrabacher isn’t the only longtime California Republican that is in trouble.
Rep. Jeff Denham lost his lead to Democrat Josh Harder on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times. Rep. Mimi Walters, R-Calif., also saw her election night lead of 6,233 votes shrink to 2,020 over Democrat Katie Porter.
