Doug Jones: Trump should not resign over sexual misconduct allegations

Democratic Senator-elect Doug Jones of Alabama said there’s no need for President Trump to resign over past allegations of sexual misconduct, a break from many congressional Democrats who have been calling on Trump to do just that.

In an interview Sunday on CNN, Jones said that the allegations against Trump were settled when he was elected president.

“Where I am on that right now is that those allegations were made before the election and so people had an opportunity to judge before the election,” he said.

Jones said that Congress should turn to “the real issues” and that “I don’t think the president ought to resign at this point.”

Several lawmakers, including Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., resigned in recent weeks over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Trump has denied all of the accusations made against him by at least 19 women.
