A future presidential moderator shared a tweet asking if President Trump would abide by new debate protocols set by the Commission of Presidential Debates.
C-SPAN’s Steve Scully, who is set to moderate the second presidential debate between Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, shared a tweet from Larry Sabato, the director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, that asked whether or not the president would submit to new rules.
“This might work as long as the person with the red button uses it generously,” the tweet reads. “But I wonder if Trump will submit?”

The rules will reportedly provide moderators with the ability to prevent candidates from talking over each other by muting their microphones. The commission issued a statement on Wednesday saying it was considering “additional structure” to allow both sides to have adequate time to speak.
“The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly. The Commission is grateful to Chris Wallace for the professionalism and skill he brought to last night’s debate and intends to ensure that additional tools to maintain order are in place for the remaining debates,” the statement reads.
Fox News’s Chris Wallace, who was the moderator of the chaotic first debate, told the New York Times that he “never dreamt” the discourse between Biden and Trump would “go off the tracks the way it did.”
Scully is scheduled to moderate the presidential debate in Miami on Oct. 15.
