ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the critical cargo ports in Brooklyn and Staten Island are open after being shuttered by Superstorm Sandy.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey received its first cargo ship Monday morning at the Red Hook Container Terminal in Brooklyn. The first ship is scheduled to arrive at Staten Island Tuesday night.

More cargo arrivals are scheduled for this week.
The ports are major handlers of the nation’s furniture, beverages and apparel among other commodities. Last year, $185 billion in goods flowed through the New York and New Jersey ports.
