The Howard County Public School System has formed a technology advisory committee to study topics such as solutions to the controversial high school data software.
“They?re looking at the overall technology of the system … and will recommend a prioritized list of what should be addressed immediately and long-term,” said Patti Caplan, schools spokeswoman. Parents have criticized the high school data software, Student Management System, for being too slow and inaccurate with grading. However, the software is being used successfully to document disciplinary and enrollment data. Grades are being reported using Grade Transporter, a locally developed software, said Caplan.
Mary Jane Barbato-Grauso, president of the Howard County Parent Teacher Association Council and a technology committee member, said she hopes community resources, including technology professionals, will be used to develop recommendations.
