Trump Jr. blames speechwriters for alleged plagiarism

Donald Trump Jr. blamed Melania Trump’s speechwriters for plagiarizing her convention speech Monday night.

The son of the billionaire businessman said his father’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, had nothing to do with the alleged stealing of remarks from a convention speech first lady Michelle Obama gave in 2008.

“Paul didn’t really have anything to do with the speech. That wasn’t him,” Trump Jr. told CBS. “Of course she had to work with speechwriters, having never done this before you gotta work with speechwriters. Those are the people that did this.”

The hired writers “should’ve cleaned it up better,” added the 38-year-old executive vice president of the Trump Organization.

Trump, Jr. is scheduled to speak Tuesday night at the convention.

The full interview will air at 10 p.m. Tuesday as part of the network’s prime-time coverage.
