Don Jr.: Democrats’ swerve to the left ‘a big mistake’ for 2020

OXON HILL, Md. — Donald Trump Jr. on Friday condemned 2020 Democrats who have endorsed New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal.

“It’s just nonsensical,” Trump Jr. said during a session of the Conservative Political Action Conference, referring to the cost of the resolution’s environmental goals. “But what’s perhaps worse about it is that every mainstream leading democratic socialist candidate for the presidency of the United States is buying into this saying, ‘Oh, it’s a great investment.'”

The Green New Deal calls for a reduction in carbon emissions across the U.S. by 2030 by substituting fossil fuel with green energy technology.

President Trump’s eldest son said the large Democratic primary field’s shift toward more liberal policies shows the Democratic Party did not learn the right lesson from Hillary Clinton’s shock 2016 loss to the president.

“So when I see them doing this, and jumping the shark, and taking an extreme point and then just blowing that out of the water and going that far left. I think what the other side has done is a big mistake,” Trump Jr. said.

He caught flak on social media for making a #MeToo joke during his appearance, which was taped at nearby Liberty University and simulcast to the confab’s Maryland venue.

“My sons always have guns in their hands,” Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr., who was hosting the event, said.

“#MeToo,” Trump Jr. replied.
