Two 16-year-old students were brought to the hospital in serious condition after police said they were stabbed by an older classmate.
The incident occurred on Monday at Mililani High School in Honolulu. The school was placed on lockdown, and students were sent home. The stabbing took place in a second-floor hallway at about 10:15 a.m. local time and involved one male and one female victim, according to Hawaii News Now.
The suspect, who was a senior at the high school, allegedly stabbed the two juniors with a knife about 3 to 4 inches in length. The three teenagers were reportedly in a garage band together and were friends, but it is not clear what prompted the attack.
“I never thought it would happen. I thought he was a cool guy. We used to hang out,” said Jayden Barbadillo-Diaz, a junior who said he knows the suspect.
The two victims were treated with stitches, and the male victim has been sent home from the hospital.
“Our priority is to support the students and families of those impacted by today’s incident,” Superintendent Christina Kishimoto said. “We are committed to ensuring that our schools continue to be safe spaces for learning, and, as such, the well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority.”
