Border Patrol spokeswoman Katharine Gorka resigns after two months

U.S. Customs and Border Protection press secretary Katharine Gorka is leaving the Trump administration after three years.

Gorka announced her departure on Tuesday saying she wants to spend more time with her family. She started her most recent position at CBP two months earlier after a stint as a senior adviser at the Department of Homeland Security.

“I’m at my third-year mark in my service to the [Trump] administration. And I felt like the time has come to spend more time with my family,” Gorka said. “I’ve been really honored to serve both the administration and at CBP.”

Gorka said she will officially step down by the end of the week.

Gorka and DHS are the targets of a Mar. 7 lawsuit by the liberal activist organization Democracy Forward. The group sued the Trump administration to obtain records and communications related to Gorka’s work.

“We’re suing to find out whether her extreme and biased views are driving Homeland Security resources away from real threats,” Democracy Forward spokeswoman Charisma Troiano said.

Gorka is married to former White House staffer Sebastian Gorka, now a pro-Trump radio host and political commentator.
