Peoria forgoes search, promotes interim cop chief

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Peoria officials on Wednesday named Jerry Mitchell the city’s new police chief, a post he held on an interim basis since his predecessor resigned to take a job at Caterpillar Inc.

Mitchell became interim police chief after Steve Settingsgaard stepped down in June to become Caterpillar’s North American regional security director.
