Students at George Washington University are competing to collect used cell phones. Tuesday was the first day of the month-long phone collection challenge. The student organization that collects the most phones will get $3,000 from the university, with second and third place worth $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.

The phones will be recycled, and the proceeds will go to fund technology projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nepal.
