The National Rifle Association
claimed in a recently filed court document that the state of New York has unleashed a “blacklisting campaign” against the organization that has robbed the pro-gun entity of tens of millions of dollars and put its future on the line.
The NRA warned in a newly obtained document that it may soon “be unable to exist” because Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state financial regulators will not give them access to services
, like insurance,
essential for them to carry out their operation

“Insurance coverage is necessary for the NRA to continue its existence,” the organization’s complaint states in a document filed in
late July, according to a report. Without general liability coverage, it adds, the “NRA cannot maintain its physical premises, convene off-site meetings and events, operate educational programs … or hold rallies, conventions and assemblies.”
As a result,
the NRA claimed it may have to sever its magazine and digital broadcasting operations.
The Reston, Va.-based national group argued the Empire State’s actions are expected to “deprive the NRA of basic bank-depository services … and other financial services essential to the NRA’s corporate existence.”
The NRA’s problems stem from its Carry Guard policy, which compensates members for legal costs they incur after firing a gun.
But in May, New York claimed the group “unlawfully provided liability insurance to gun owners for certain acts of intentional wrongdoing.”
In return, the NRA’s insurers abandoned them and paid a $7 million fine. Since then, the NRA has not been able to find new insurers.
The NRA is now asking a district judge to block the state’s interference in the future. The group did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
